This recipe was sent in by Elle…thanks Elle!  It’s delicious!!

Elle found that by preparing a beverage made with our tea powder, she had more sustained energy than by consuming tea made the “normal” way (with the tea grounds filtered out).

The thickness of the coconut milk suspends the tea particles quite cleverly, meaning that very little sediment is left at the bottom of the cup.

This is because the tea powder enters your gastrointestinal tract and is digested slowly, releasing even more of the beneficial alkaloids, vitamins and trace elements into your bloodstream.  This gives a sustained level of energy and focus.

Cacao and our Health Tea make great companions, as the alkaloids in the health tea are known to reduce the natural bitterness of the Cacao.  The Health tea literally “debitters” the raw cacao, producing a smooth flavour.  This means you can make a very healthy chocolately drink, filled with goodness, with little to no added sugar.

Give it a try, it’s delightful!

Ingredients:

1 heaped teaspoon of Health Tea powder. 2 teaspoons for a stronger beverage.

1 to 2 teaspoons of raw Cacao powder

1 pinch of sodium bicarbonate (optional, helps to draw alkaloids out of the Health Tea powder)

Coconut milk (or Light Coconut Milk for a lower-fat alternative)

Hot water, just off the boil.

Method:

Boil water, allow to cool for around 1 to 2 minutes.

Add 1-2 teaspoons of Health Tea powder to a mug.

Combine with 1 or 2 teaspoons of raw cacao powder and a pinch of sodium bicarbonate

Fill mug half-way with hot water.

Allow to brew for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Heat coconut milk to around 55 degrees Centigrade, using a milk steamer, stove or microwave.

Add the coconut milk to mug and stir.

Sweeten to taste if desired.  Great sugar-free alternatives are stevia or Peruvian Yacon syrup from our friends at iHerb*

* Yacon syrup is a pre-biotic.  This means is passes through the gut to the colon where it nourishes the beneficial bacteria, improving your microbiome, and promoting a host of positive health outcomes.  Good stuff surely does come from Peru!
